NORTHBOUND IN ONTARIO

For generations, communities have gathered in Grey Bruce County to honour their ancestors and keep the stories alive.

Owen Sound is home to one of the longest-running Emancipation Day celebrations in North America.

Northbound in Ontario brings young people into that legacy through a 3-day, 2-night journey across the Blue Mountain region, where Black history, nature, and storytelling meet.

Through Elders, community members, and heritage sites like the Black History Cairn, Grey Roots Museum, Sheffield Park Black History & Cultural Museum, we learn about African Canadian settlement in the region.

The weekend makes space for rest, nature, dialogue, and reflection. Youth are invited to see how Black history lives beyond major cities, in rural communities where memory has been protected and perpetuated for generations.
